🎯 Which AI checker should you use?
- Assignment in English → Turnitin AI + Plagiarism, RM6.99. This is the same AI writing indicator your lecturer sees, plus the similarity %, in one PDF. Needs 300–30,000 words.
- Assignment in Bahasa Melayu → GPTZero AI check, RM2.39. Turnitin gives no AI score for Malay. 250 words minimum.
- Arabic → see the Arabic AI checker guide.
- Only worried about plagiarism → the Turnitin similarity report, RM2.99.
📊 How to read your AI score
- 0% — no qualifying text was flagged.
- 1–19% (shown as *%) — Turnitin itself considers this range less reliable, because false positives are more likely. Many lecturers ignore it.
- 20% and above — highlighted paragraphs are what your lecturer will look at. Rewrite them in your own voice, with your own examples and sources.
- Tables, bullet lists, short answers and references are often not scored, so the % is of the prose Turnitin could read.
Grammar tools that rewrite whole sentences (paraphrasers, "make it formal" prompts) can raise the AI score even when you wrote the first draft yourself. Fixing spelling and grammar alone usually does not.
🆓 What about free AI checkers?
ZeroGPT, QuillBot, Scribbr's free detector and GPTZero's free tier are fine for a rough idea, but each uses its own model, so the % will not match Turnitin's. The same paragraph can score 0% on one and 70% on another. If your lecturer uses Turnitin, Turnitin's number is the one that counts. Side-by-side comparison: free AI detectors vs Turnitin.
🔒 Is my file safe?
Turnitin checks run in No Repository mode, so the file is not added to Turnitin's database and will not match itself when you submit to your university. Reports are emailed to you and kept on your order page.
❓ FAQ
Which AI checker do Malaysian universities use?
Most Malaysian public and private universities use Turnitin, whose AI writing detection is built into the same report as the similarity score. To see the same number as your lecturer, check on Turnitin itself.
Can Turnitin detect AI in Bahasa Melayu?
No. Turnitin's AI writing detector supports English, Spanish and Japanese only, so a Malay assignment gets a similarity score but no AI score. GPTZero is the practical option for Malay text, from RM2.39 per file.
How accurate is an AI checker?
No AI detector is 100% accurate. Turnitin itself treats scores under 20% as less reliable and shows them with an asterisk. A high score on a long section is a stronger signal than a low score on a few sentences.
Why does ZeroGPT say 0% but Turnitin says 60%?
Each detector uses its own model and threshold, trained on different data. Scores from free tools do not predict Turnitin's score, which is why students check on Turnitin before submitting.
How long does an AI check take?
A Turnitin AI + plagiarism report is emailed in 5–15 minutes. A GPTZero report for Malay text takes 0–5 minutes. Both are open 24 hours.
