🏫 Can a student buy Turnitin?
No. Turnitin Feedback Studio — the version Malaysian universities use — is licensed only to institutions, priced per student per year in a contract with the university. There is no personal plan, no monthly subscription and no price list a student can pay on Turnitin's website.
So students get Turnitin in one of two ways: through their own class (usually with a limited number of submissions, often only before the deadline), or by paying a service that holds instructor accounts to run the check for them. That second option is what the prices below are for.
📋 Turnitin check prices at Coolsbox
| Check | Price | Word limit | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plagiarism (similarity) report | RM2.99 | < 20,000 | Assignments, reports, essays |
| Premium — long documents | RM3.99 | up to 80,000 | Full thesis, FYP, dissertation |
| Express — front of the queue | RM5.50 | < 20,000 | Deadline tonight |
| AI + Plagiarism | RM6.99 | < 30,000 | Similarity % and Turnitin AI writing % |
| Reduce Similarity (under 30%) | RM4.99 | < 20,000 | Report re-run with Turnitin's exclusion filters |
Every check is a real Turnitin PDF report, run in No Repository mode — your draft is not stored, so it will not match against itself when you submit to your university. Classes and lecturers can buy bulk AI + plagiarism packs or bulk plagiarism packs for a lower price per check.
🤔 Which check do I need?
- Your lecturer only looks at similarity % → the plagiarism report is enough.
- Your lecturer also checks for ChatGPT / AI writing → take AI + Plagiarism. Turnitin only gives an AI score for English, Spanish and Japanese, between 300 and 30,000 words.
- Your assignment is in Bahasa Melayu → Turnitin gives no AI score for Malay. Use the GPTZero AI checker for the AI part.
- Thesis or FYP over 20,000 words → Premium.
- Similarity already too high → Reduce Similarity re-runs the report with Turnitin's own filters (quotes, bibliography, small matches) the way your lecturer can.
🆓 What about free Turnitin?
Turnitin itself has no free version for individuals. "Free Turnitin checker" sites either use a different plagiarism engine (so the % will not match your university's report) or store your text. If you need the same number your lecturer will see, it has to be an actual Turnitin report. More on this in Is there a free Turnitin checker?
❓ FAQ
How much is Turnitin for students in Malaysia?
Turnitin does not sell directly to students. Universities pay for it under an institutional licence. Through Coolsbox, a single Turnitin plagiarism report costs RM2.99, a thesis-length report RM3.99, and an AI + plagiarism report RM6.99.
Is there a Turnitin monthly subscription for individuals?
No. Turnitin Feedback Studio has no personal or monthly plan. Pay-per-check services are the only way for an individual to get a report outside their class.
Is a RM2.99 Turnitin check a real Turnitin report?
Yes. It is generated on Turnitin and you receive the official PDF similarity report, the same format your lecturer sees, in No Repository mode.
Will checking my work first make it show 100% when I submit?
No. Checks run in No Repository mode, so your document is never added to Turnitin's database and cannot match itself later.
Why is the AI + Plagiarism check more expensive?
It produces two reports in one PDF: the similarity report and Turnitin's AI writing detection report, which needs a separately licensed AI-enabled account.
